Surface To Air A/W’09

It’s the academias at work over at French label Surface to Air’s wardrobe. Join in as they take a lesson from student life, putting together a collection that reflects a casual and conservative preppiness.

Salvage tapes, curduroy, duffle jackets, graphic tees and other must haves make for highlights, with tailoring that is clearly seen as clean and simple. Nice, on or off campus.

Surface to Air is available at Asylum, 22 Ann Siang Road.

SBTG presents … B.R.M.C and Thriller

SBTG, local bad boy of designs, sinks deep into his newest collection of custom sneakers. And wow, the latest Varsity Bones series looks real naughty (in the punk way).

It carries an anarchistic and rebellious streak, like the edgy and enigmatic Black Rebel Motorpsycho Club (B.R.M.C), and the dropkick flash in Thriller. Check out the intricate combo of strict detailing, studs, rivets, luxurious linings, clever geometry and cool, mad attitude. Gorgeous.

HOOKED CLOTHINGS A/W’09

Its getting dark and heavy over at Hooked. The newest collection of shirts, jackets and tees by the label, dubbed Bizzare Love Triangle, puts focus on some sinister graphics and muted tones, all summed up by the tagline “My Evil is Alive & Well”.

Indeed it is. All the better to complement with the colour of the A/W sky all around.

It’s time to get colourful…. Very colourful.. and WILD!

Groundbreaking fashion designer Jeremy Scott is back with a roar, and this time, collaborating once again with the iconic sports label.

Known for his avant-garde renderings in fashion, Jeremy Scott has broken the barriers in the realm of footwear as well with shoes like his recent three tongue adidas Originals sneaker.

This season inspired by Ms Singapore Ris Low’s Lap-pard preens and zip-bra preens leopards and zebras, Jeremy Scott takes toys with African culture, wild animals, as well as a touch of the 80s to produce some fun highlight pieces like the Giraffe Pullover Dress, the lightweight packable nylon Safari Poncho, and the multi-coloured TV Down Jacket.

If you like it RAD and LOUD, you are bound to like these daring interpretations, and the BOOMZical tigers, leopards and other innovative and provocative prints that will challenge your senses.

With Scott’s presence and past history with adidas you can expect a promising collection with lively colors and resolute pieces.

Set to debut soon, this Adidas Originals by Originals Sub-collection will definitely create waves…

:: ThursTrends _ who plaid better? / get bowed over ::

Plaid is in!

Alright, its been in fashion (again) since early this fall, but with current trends, its definitely the hottest thing. It has this androgynous feeling, especially when its on shirts and other tops.

But unfortunately, someone plaid it bad. Real bad.

There are certain plaid prints and designs which has been officially been listed as trashy no go. These includes big black square plaids, purple combinations and red & green plaids.

And who killed them? None other than the Singaporeans who overdo on them.

Be more fanciful. Try on bolder colours and not follow blindly. Monochrome plaids are nice, but NOT with neon coloured skinny jeans. This week alone, I’ve seen more than a dozen “bengs” and their counterparts in them. NOOOOO!

Similarly, purple combinations (usually with black, white or black and white) plaids are fast becoming a “mat” icon. No discriminations here, but, the whole look, being iconic of them, as made it look bad. Once again, the combination of such plaided shirts with the whole “mat” look makes it unbearable. Maybe, you can try it on with tailored shorts or if you insist on neon colours, have it on berms.

As for the red and green combination, well, although December 25th is nearing, but don’t, please DON’T, dress up AS a christmas tree.

Now, how to look good in plaids.

Go for non-traditional colours and plaid patterns. Yellow, blue, green (with white, black or other non-clashing colour combination) are great choices. Burberry Winter Collection featured some really nice plaids (other than its usual Burberry pattern!).Try something bold. And avoid big square patterns, instead, put on something smaller and more regular.

Do not overdo coloured plaits. Checkered prints are already something which catches attention. Try not to pair it with more checkered prints. If you already have a plaided top, try to match with a simple brown/black bottom. You may want some compatible accessories like plaid design shoes or bangles/wristband/shades, but try not to match it with a checkered scarf. Remember, plaids is a design, don’t overkill designs. Keep the others simple.

Similarly, your other half (top is to bottom and bottom is to top) should be in clean, simple colours. No checkered shorts with checkered shirts. Printed shirts are okay, but try to avoid loud prints that make you look over burdened with designs.

All Bowed Up

Another new trend is in bows. Simple single coloured bows in contrasting colour adds another layer to a plaided short sleeved shirt. It generates a boyish feel that is chic yet not overly kiddish. Or opt for a bow/tie with a checked/plaid design to go with your white top (long sleeved/short sleeved shirts or even collared tees).

Fashion guru Keith Png’s shop in the attic, Hide & Seek, offers exclusive custom bow making. Prices vary as with your choice of design of material, the material itself, size, and wheter you want it to be a buttoned on bow, or a sling tie bow.

Hide&Seek can be found at 22B Hong Kong Street (opposite Central). (More on this great place to shop in another update).

So plaid down and (bow) tie up. Try on something different this weekend!

:: Burberry Ion + Burberry S/S10 Men’s ::

[Burberry Ion opens with aplomb! ]

At its gala opening ceremony yesterday (3 November), throngs of guests and celebrities crowded the largest Burberry store in South-east Asia. The wonderful guest list included heartthrob Won Bin from Korea, Li Bing Bing from China, and plenty of local celebrities including Zoe Tay, Jacelyn Tay (and her beau), and the Fly! entourage lead by Irene Ang.

But the biggest and brightest star had to be Mr Christopher Bailey!

The Burberry store, yet another flagship store at Ion, is the brand’s 6th outlet here in Singapore.

And to go with that, Fashionisiac brings you a peek of…

[Burberry S/S10 Men’s Burberry Prorsum]

The pictures should tell you all about them.

Do look out for it early next year. (I love the carry-on ones.. Birthday present for me in April next year? Haha!)
